Bogra Machinery, Agricultural Equipment, Agricultural Product
and Seed Technology Fair-2008
Bangladesh is predominantly an agrarian economy and characterized by small-scale, fragmented farming that employs traditional technology. However since the 1980s, a significant market liberalization and large scale privatization of agriculture has heralded a rapid growth in mechanization of irrigation and tillage technology. The brought about changes in the emergence of an agricultural machinery, tools and equipment sub-sector as an important player in production and fabrication of not only spare components but also a variety of low cost appropriate innovative machinery.
Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogra has successfully completed 1st & 2nd National Seed and Crop Fair, First National Seed Health Fair and Bogra Machinery and Agricultural Equipment and Seed Technology Fair-2004. For the continuous success of those initiatives, RDA is going to arrange a national fair titled Bogra Machinery, Agricultural Equipment, Agricultural Product and Seed Technology Fair-2008 in coming 14-18 February, 2008 that would be arranged in RDA Campus. This fair will be inaugurated by the Adviser Mr. Md. Anwarul Iqbal, BPM (Bar), PPM, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives; Textile and Jute and Manpower and Employment.
Over the years the agricultural machinery, tools, equipment, product and seed sector have been various development from research and demonstrative institutions like BARI/BRRI, and different lead fabricators and manufacturer company. However, information about these developments has yet to create expected impact among the manufacturers and users of agro-tools, in terms of use and product quality. Interestingly, the agro-tools sector shifted its focus from Bogra to broad and abroad in the last decade but unfortunately, the expected technology transfer did not accompany the shift. The consequence now is that the quality of agro-tools, machinery, equipment, product and seed proves a major impediment when competing with imports.
So this fair will be a commendable attempt to reduce the information gap between the producers of agro-tools in the region and the available new agro technologies, which should result in opportunities for improved network.
